  3. How they TALK about it

What do you search for? And why?

When you get right down to it, those Bing TV commercials get close (but no cigar) when they renamed their search engine a “decision” engine.

People use search engines to find a solution to their problem.

Case closed.

Now, their problem could be characterized in a VARIETY of different ways:

  1. finding the best red wine
  2. getting the hot new toy at the best price
  3. “curing” chronic bad breath
  4. alternative health treatments for migraines

You name it, chances are people are looking for it.

Now, as they type their “problem” in search engines you have to understand that chances are they visited a couple of sites before finding yours.

So they are impatient.

Especially if their problem is urgent or particularly embarrassing.

Not to be sexist, but as the old saying goes “this is where you separate the men from the boys.” Or to be more inclusive, this is where you separate the amateurs from the pros.

IF you address their problem directly and present yourself as THE solution provider, chances are you will generate more leads or sell more online then your competitors.

And if you don’t… mediocre results just like everybody else.
