I recently had the pleasure of working with a new coaching client named Susan.
She teaches quilting classes and wants to promote her classes and sell her products on her website.
To give you some background, Susan was referred to us from another “quilter” (Dee) who wanted to sell custom quilted bags online without spending big bucks.
Or being overwhelmed with lots of “technical” stuff.
Okay, now back to Susan…
Virtual Blog Coaching
As I was working with her, we reviewed how to use her blog within the admin section (the back-end or dashboard) to add new posts and pages on the site.
What was more important, however, was her experience of adapting from what she thought she knew about the internet and websites in general and knowing what to do now to become effective online today.
Why is this so important?
Because what you don’t know can and will affect your ability to be found and make sales online.
Also you must be aware that the internet is NOT a static place where you set up a booth and people will buy because they found you. You site is not amazon.com, walmart.com or target.com.
To put things into perspective, EACH DAY 22,000 new websites are created.
This doesn’t mean that you can’t succeed online. It does mean, however, that you will need to know some techniques (some basic, some advanced) and apply them in order to generate results.
Blog Coaching Results
As I was showing Susan the “Ins and Outs” of the blog, including:
- setting up posts
- creating pages
- adding content & images
She discovered that once it was done it wasn’t as bad as she initially thought it would be.
As we were talking I was able to show her what she needed by reviewing other sites that had similar content as hers.
We also reviewed some sites that a friend of Susan had set up (those “quick website” template systems advertised on TV) and she was able to see why those just wouldn’t work. Instead of “quick and easy” it was a pain in the &*% to work with that her friend swore she would never make that mistake again.
Now here’s the best part.
Susan was excited at the prospect of finally having her website do what SHE wanted from it.
And the fact the she now could make changes and add new things at the click of a button, all without paying more money for added features she would never have used.
What I am talking about here is empowerment.
Plain and simply put, taking control into your own hands. It’s YOUR website, YOUR business, so you will get the best results when you make it the best you want it to be.
So how does the story end?
Well, on one level it does, and on another level it doesn’t.
Here’s what I mean…
Some clients have been in our blog coaching program for more than 2 years. Others have stayed for a few months to get up to speed, only to return later for more “advanced” techniques and strategies.
In Susan’s case I will continue to show her what she needs to do to get the job done, nothing more and certainly nothing less that giving her the tools and techniques she needs to get the job done herself.
Either way if in the future she gets stuck I am here for her by email, or in a pinch by phone.
But it’s up to her to keep the ball rolling.
Empowerment comes at a price of vigilance.
Your hard work, sweat and tears make up your efforts — and this in turn translates into an effective website for your business.
