If you have a blog (or any other website) it goes without saying that the greatest challenge is getting a consistent flow of traffic to your site.
To make matters more difficult for you, information online gets old (obsolete) real fast.
For example, in checking out other sites online I found some articles offering tips for how to increase your blog traffic.
The problem?
Most of the tips stopped being effective AT LEAST a year ago.
So… rather than focusing on the negative I decided to share three (3) realistic tips you can use to generate blog traffic starting today.
They are:
- keywords, keywords, keywords
- write new content consistently & often
- distribute content on social network sites
Use Keywords for SEO
The KEY (no pun intended) for getting TARGETED traffic to your site is to find keywords relavent and related to your content.
You then have to USE the keyword in your post title and meta-description.
Choose a keyword that has a search volume worth targeting, but don’t go crazy and pick a keyword with an outrageous amount of searches each month.
Why not?
Because you are NEVER going to optimize a keyword like that on your blog. Plus, most of those types of keywords are too broad to be meaningful.
Quick keyword test: if you find a keyword phrase and you don’t immediately KNOW what the person is looking for… move on.
Write New Posts… Often
The first tip outlined how to get picked up by search engines.
Now, you don’t have to submit your stuff to Google and the other search engines because the blog’s “ping” feature does all of that for you automatically.
However, rankings on search engine results pages ebb and flow, especially in the beginning or for blog sites with only a few posts and pages.
SEO Tip: only large sites have stable rankings because they have so many pages of content. The SIZE of those sites provides SERP stability…
The key to getting on the first page of Google is to publish NEW content often.
And consistently.
How often?
Well, that depends on a LOT of factors. A quick rule of thumb is to publish more than your competitors!
For just about any blog, I would suggest a new article at least once per week.
And when it comes to blogs, there is no such thing as a “bad” blog post.
Distribute Your Articles
Finally, you’ll want to distribute your articles on social media sites, such as:
- digg
The key is to use a compelling headline for your post that would entice someone finding your content there to click on the link (normally your headline) to come on over and “check you out.”
Follow these three tips and you will generate traffic to your blog…
Guaranteed.
