At least once a month someone contacts me because they want (or need) to get their website on Google’s first page.
And typically I’ll hear some horror story about the wasted dollars spent using other “more professional” SEO companies.
By “more professional” they usually mean a company with:
- a large sales force of cold-callers
- a “team” of account reps
- a “prestigious” name
- a “specialist” in their niche/industry.
Do you know what the common denominator is?
All of these “professional companies” promise big results to get you to sign up for a 6 month or year contract. And all of them are unable to deliver the results they promise you.
Would you like to know why?
The Truth About SEO Explained…
Yesterday I met with (i.e. wasted time in a meeting with) someone who wanted to hire me for SEO.
Basically, she and her business partner wanted me to create an entire web business for them without them “doing anything.” In other words, they were looking for someone to basically build FOR THEM a fully functioning business online without even a bit of their input.
Do I have to mention that after the meeting I politely told them that I would not work on their project?
And do I need to mention that when they saw my fee they were “shocked” at the very reasonable monthly fee quoted to do that work for them?
Now let me ask you something… if you knew how to get websites on Google’s first page for ACTUAL keyword phrases, would you waste your time building a web-business for snobby and ungrateful people, or would you build one (or several) for yourself?
What I’m suggesting to you is this…
So called “professional SEO companies” can’t get you the results you want because they can’t even get them for themselves (why do they cold-call you looking for new business?).
What’s more, they do not use SEO to make money for themselves directly.
In other words, if 100% of the SEO company’s revenue is generated by working with clients paying for SEO services, then you know the person has NO FRIGGIN IDEA how to generate results at all. What you’ll get is a long-term contract and an “account executive” whose only job is to get you to sign up again.
That’s just a reality… the only people who can help you get to page 1 are already doing it for themselves, and just don’t want (or need) to help you because of opportunity cost. Meaning, every hour spent building someone else’s business is an hour taken away from making more money online directly.
And if you need proof that I know what I’m talking about, you can click the image for a better view…
Normally I close articles with some sort of “call to action” asking if you are ready to work with a professional. Well, I’m not going to do that this time, because at this point I no longer want to (or need to) work directly with clients.
It would take a special or interesting project to get me motivated to want to help someone to get more results online, rather than focusing 100% of my time on existing clients and my own projects.
And it would also have to be someone who is nice, decent, and respectful.
Oh, let’s not forget appreciative.
