Having a Google friendly website involves more these days than simply adding the right keywords to your site and getting quality backlinks to your site.
Sure, that’s still an important, dare I say critical, step.
But it’s only a FIRST step.
That’s because these days SEO (i.e. getting the right traffic to your site) involves a number of factors that may surprise you. And one of the most important of these “new” factors is…
SEO and web design
SEO involves much more than stuffing a bunch of keywords on your web pages. In fact, simply adding a bunch of “tags” or adding a list of keywords to your site hasn’t been effective for years.
Don’t get me wrong… you still need to target the right keywords.
However, there are only TWO places where they remain relevant. One is in your “meta title” — this is usually your post or page title. And the second place is in your “meta description.” And they need to match to have any chance of working for you. For example, your “meta data” (i.e. your title and description) shows up when people search online this way…
So how can you maintain your top rankings? Or eventually “climb the Google-ladder” to get on the top of search results important for your business?
By making sure your site is based on “Responsive Web Design” — i.e. having a “mobile ready website.”
Why does this matter?
Because Google says so. And since Google has a 67% market share when it comes to search engines you better pay attention.
The trend, which Google right sees, is the continued increase in mobile browsing. Tablets and smart phones are here to stay. And since Google safeguards “user experience” like no other online company (it is THE mantra that guides all their decisions), then mobile responsive websites (i.e. mobile ready ones) will get preferential treatment when it comes to getting found for searches, especially local searches.
In fact, according to Mark Imperial…
“the big ‘G’ stated that Responsive Web Design is the industry best practice…. Responsive Web Design gives a better user experience because it lives on one website and one URL.”
In a nutshell, your website needs to be mobile ready if you want to rank ahead of your competition for searches.
The good news?
You don’t have to spend big bucks to transform your existing website into a mobile ready one. That’s because many of the newest WordPress designed themes are built on a mobile ready platform. So transforming your old html website (or older WordPress based site using an outdated theme) can be accomplished in a short time-frame (say a week) and without breaking the bank.
After all, you don’t have to spend a million bucks to look like a million bucks…
